I have a 2012 Ford Focus with the EcoBoost engine. It's done 19,000 miles and recently broke down with a serious and spontaneous overheat. I was rescued by the AA who found the pipe from the turbo to the cooling system seriously split. As the car had so dramatically overheated the AA suspected the head gasket had blown. The car may need a new engine, although it is under warranty. 1) if the Solution: This is a very common problem with any Ford Focus that was built between 2012 and 2013 that was fitted with 1.0-litre Ecoboost. The problem is caused by a leaking coolant, and it needs a new 'Degas' hose fitted. You can fairly easily check yourself if the Degas hose has been fitted, and if it isn't, you can get one with us. By now there must be a few hundred posts on here regarding the failure of the 1.0 ecoboost, the probable causes and what might help avoid the failure. The cost of a full brand new engine from Ford at the moment is £2500 (excludes the turbo). It takes about 8 to 10 hours to do the job so at Ford prices that's about £1200 to £1400.
